Washington and Wilkes County has a recreation department.
The department offers a wide range of activities for all age groups. Because of our central location, there are
many opportunities to attend sporting events. The local high school, college,
and professional teams are within a few hours drive.
It is a vibrant community of diverse citizens
living and working together for success. Washington-Wilkes blends the best of
old and new, of tradition and innovation, of convenience to cities and serenity
in a pastoral setting, to make a town and county that people proudly call home.
Washington/Wilkes boasts an extremely active
and talented "Little Theatre". This group has been active for many years, and
each year presents several varied and wonderful productions.
The Mary Willis Library was the first free public library in Georgia. It was
built in 1889 and contains a stained-glass window designed and executed by Louis
Comfort Tiffany. The library is now a "hub" for a Regional Library system. |

If golf is your "bag", the Washington-Wilkes Country Club offers a
great 9 hole course. They also have 2 tennis
courts, 3 fishing lakes, a swimming pool, and a club house.
